The position incumbent leads the development of award winning new products that drive profitable growth. Responsibilities include all aspects of product and packaging development by utilizing cross-functional teams with international members. The position incumbent also leads and manages the feasibility and commercialization of products from concepts to the customer and ensures continued profitability.
Essential Functions (not limited to):
Develop business case and product feasibility studies for new proposed products and packaging designs.
Direct and implement plans that enhance existing products’ profitability and market share.
Develop launch plans and direct cross-functional teams for commercialization of new items. Monitor progress and overcome obstacles to deliver against tight timelines in a dynamic environment.
Work closely with domestic and overseas’ sites and converters to determine production and packaging capabilities. Also, work with quality and regulatory to identify key product attributes.
Provide support for the sales team as a product and packaging expert.
Utilize in-depth understanding of converting design to different substrates and monitoring various printing processes.
Communicate any changes/updates to team members, including packaging designers.
Ensure purchasing and printing processes are in accordance with the timeline.
Understand and monitor consumer, product and packaging trends – and direct product development accordingly ensuring alignment of production, co-packing and sales with the plans.
Skills and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, MBA preferred.
Ability to develop business cases and feasibility studies – to drive and oversee profitability.
Strong analytical skills (including pulling and analyzing syndicated data) and project management/launching experience.
Experience in NPD and leading multi-factional teams that include participants from other global units (including R&D, Marketing, supply chain, etc.).
Strategic planning skills and excellent tactical skills – roll-up sleeves and multi-task.
Branded consumer goods experience and ability to work effectively under tight timelines.
Strong agency and vendor management skills.
5 + years of experience in product development and commercialization.
Domestic and international travel 15%, including attending packaging press runs as needed.
