This fall treat is a family favorite! It is an easy dessert prepared with apples picked right on the farm. The crispy oat topping is prepared using Finlandia unsalted butter and is served with a decadent homemade vanilla custard.
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Grease 9 x 9 inch square pan with Finlandia Unsalted Butter. Set aside.
Peel, core and slice apples and toss with cinnamon. Place in prepared pan.
In a medium bowl, combine sugar, oats, flour, salt and nutmeg. Stir in melted Finlandia Unsalted Butter. Spoon over the apples and bake for 28-30 minutes or until golden brown and bubbly. Serve with vanilla custard.
In a medium saucepan, whisk together milk, egg, and potato flour. Cook over moderate heat, stirring constantly, until sauce thickens enough to coat back of a wooden spoon and registers 170°F. on an instant-read thermometer.
Immediately pour sauce through a fine mesh sieve into a metal bowl. Place bowl in a larger bowl that has been filled with ice and cold water. Stir in the sugar and vanilla extract. Whisk custard occasionally until cool. Cover and store in refrigerator until ready to serve.
