Heart shaped pies filled with cherry filling make a sweet treat for Valentine's Day!

Ingredients
  • Two batches of Flaky Pie Crust
  • 1 can cherry pie filling
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • Instructions

Follow recipe for Flaky Pie Crust, making two batches.

Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
Working in two batches, roll 1 batch of pie crust out into ¼” thickness. Using a heart shaped cookie cutter, cut out heart shapes. Lay one heart on the baking sheet and spoon 2 tbsp of pie filling onto the center of the heart. Using a pastry brush, coat the edges of another heart shape with egg wash, then place on top of the first heart shape, covering the pie filling. Crimp edges using a fork, and slice vents into the top of the pie. Brush the pie with egg wash and sprinkle lightly with sugar. Repeat for each pie. Once all pies are assembled, refrigerate for 20 minutes. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Bake pies for 10-15 minutes or until crust is a light golden brown. Place pies on a wire rack to cool.
