Ingredients
- 1 cup plus 1 tsp vegetable shortening
- 4 cups plus 2 tbs all-purpose flour
- 1 tbs baking powder
- 1/8 tsp freshly ground black pepper
- 1 tsp salt
- 4 ounces cooked and crumbled bacon
- 1 cup Finlandia Gouda Cheese, shredded
- 1 cup milk
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350F and lightly grease a baking sheet with 1 tsp of shortening.
In a large mixing bowl, combine 4 cups flour, baking powder, pepper, salt, bacon and Gouda cheese. Mix well. Add the remaining shortening and work it into the dry ingredients, using your hands, until the mixture resembles course crumbs. Fold in the milk. (The dough will be sticky.)
Dust work surface with 1 tbs flour. Turn the dough onto the floured surface and gently fold each side towards the center. Add remaining tbs of flour to work surface and repeat process. Turn the dough over and press it out to a 1” thickness. Cut out the biscuits using a 2” round cookie cutter. Place the biscuits onto the prepared baking sheet and bake until golden, about 30 minutes.
