Sicilian Havarti Grilled Cheese Sandwich

Homemade or jarred pesto adds even more flavor to this sandwich. Any Italian deli meat can be enjoyed here. Try mortadella, salami, capicola.

Treat your family to the taste of the Mediterranean. Fresh, crisp veggies and olives, layered with salty prosciutto and our zesty, creamy Havarti, grilled to golden perfection.

Ingredients
  • 1 can (15 ounces) white beans, rinsed, drained and mashed
  • 3 tbsp sour cream
  • 1 tbsp finely chopped red onion
  • 1 tbsp capers
  • 1 tbsp sliced black olives
  • 1 tbsp snipped fresh basil
  • 1 tbsp balsamic vinegar
  • 1 clove garlic, crushed
  • ½ tsp  lemon pepper
  • 12 slices Italian bread, cut into ½” thick slices
  • 6 thin slices prosciutto or other cooked ham
  • 12 thin strips green bell pepper
  • 6 slices Finlandia Havarti Cheese
  • 4 tbsp olive oil
  • Garnish: Italian parsley and cherry tomatoes (optional)
Instructions

Combine the 1st 9 ingredients together in a bowl until well mixed.  Spread evenly over 1 side of bread slices. Layer each with the prosciutto, bell pepper strips, and Finlandia Havarti Cheese.  Place remaining bread slices on top.  Brush both sides of each sandwich with oil. Cook sandwiches in a nonstick skillet or griddle 2-3 minutes per side or until golden and cheese is melted.
