- ¾ cup buttermilk (or whole milk with 1 tbsp white vinegar added)
- 2 eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- ¼ cup Turbinado sugar
- ¼ cup Optional add-ins: dried cherries, sweetened coconut flakes, unsalted pistachios

Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F.
- Grate the cold butter on a box grater, or cut into small cubes.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder and salt.
- Work in the butter with a fork or clean hands, until it resembles coarse sand. Mix in your add-ins.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the milk, 1 egg, and vanilla.
- Pour the wet ingredients over the dry mixture. Gently stir until just combined. don’t overwork the dough.
- Place the dough onto a floured work surface. With hands, form into a rectangle. Fold dough in half, over itself several times to form layers.
- Pat out into 6″ circle.
- Cut into 8 wedges and place onto a parchment paper lined baking sheet. Chill, uncovered for 20 minutes.
- Whisk second egg, brush the tops and sides of the scones with egg. Sprinkle scones with turbinado sugar. Bake for about 20 minutes or until golden brown.
